Re: kitty litter training in search of good tips!!! =}

we used an attraction litter...ie.. a litter that actually atracts the kittens to it...

also it helped us with having 2 litters nearby so the kittens could watch the cats using a litter tray..

also a good tip is to have a tray with low sides.. for them to get in and out easily enough.

A small kitten litter tray (you can buy them at P@H for about £4) using wood chip litter. Place it almost outside of the kittening box she is using.

As soon as they start leaving the nest area to explore pop a bit of mum's urine soaked litter in the tray.

Just make sure that you keep the litter fresh. You only need to put a small amount of litter in there though. We were changing ours completely about 3-4 times a day and for the first week we kept on adding a bit of mums, or leaving a bit of their own urine soaked litter in.

Then once you're confident they are using it every time they go you gradually start moving the tray over to mums larger tray. It also helps to have a few trays dotted around the room as well. You have more of a hit rate then. You can gradually decrease the number of trays as they get older so it's not a permanent thing.

It's much harder to rid your floors of the scent that toileting leaves behind than it is to provide several trays for a while. Once they start peeing/pooping on your floors it can be a nightmare to stop so I've heard But if you go a little overboard providing them with enough places to go in different trays you've more chance of success IMO ... well it worked for us.

Mine come downstairs but it's up to you really. They are usually moved down once they are about 3 or 4 weeks old and starting to wobble about. Up till then Mai Tai drags them back to her nest if they try to escape but I think she gives up by the time they're that age After that they have the run of the house while I am in but restricted to one room at night or when I have to go out.

the litter is called cat attract and is supposed to attract the cat to using it.
i have always used 'swiftie' by sherleys. whenever i have first had a cat or kitten i have put a couple of drops of swiftie in the litter tray. it always seems to work for me or rather them
