Re: Loosing a Queen During Labor
It's something that would put me off too. I'm glad it's never happened to you and I hope that it never does. My girl, whom I had hoped to have just one litter with is booked in to me neutered on Monday. It's a thought that keeps running through my mind and a risk I would rather not take. My girl is like my soul mate and I love her so much. She has such a unique personality that I wouldn't want to put her through anything she didn't have to go through. Complications, sections, I just can't! The thought of her having an Operation to be spayed is scaring me enough!

Re: Loosing a Queen During Labor
It's a very low risk - probably as low as death from spaying (though of course you generally end up spaying a breeding queen eventually anyway).
I lost one once but that was probably down to incompetence. I took her in for an emergency caesarean and admittedly probably should have done so before I did, nothing was happening after the delivery of one kitten and in retrospect, she may have been straining and become exhausted, as she was not happy, but at the time I thought she was just resting between kittens and it took hours for me to realise that something was wrong. Anyway I took her in about 8pm and the vet did nothing whatsoever until the next day! Had I realised earlier that something was seriously wrong, and / or had I had a better vet, I almost certainly would not have lost her ![]() Cats recover incredibly quickly from c-sections, I have known one to be jumping in and out the window the next day (much to my horror!) Blinking heck, Liz - sorry to be reading this but ... that would make me SO ANGRY mad: with that vet for not doing anything until the FOLLOWING DAY Breeding is so full of highs and lows - nature can be ever so cruel. So far, I have been very lucky and never lost a queen giving birth to her children. I have lost litters but never a queen. Poppy was the one who never succeeded in having a litter and Zoe's last litter was lost due to delay in giving a ceasarian - that made me mad at the vet, but thankfully, I did not lose my girl. It seems to be a rarity but a risk worth watching out for. Spaying operations, on the other hand are very routine for vets and they do them every time they see a female kitten who will not be bred from. The risk is very low indeed Fluffy. Will still be sending best purrs to you and your girl. ![]() |

) Yes, that's true, we always worry when its our own girl. Very natural. Sending best purrs and big cyber hugs. I know how you feel as I have had girls spayed before - it is far more invasive than the mere snip that boys experience. rolleyes:![]() |
