My cat uggs is pregnant and I have a few questions

Hi every1 I am new at this so please be nice. My cat uggs (1 year old black and white tux) is pregnant. She is a house cat and I took in a stray (unwanted Tom cat from a friend) he is a lovely cat (Ginger and white). I got him done 3 weeks ago. Now for my questions. I no uggs is 3 weeks min but how do I tell how far gone she is? She has big pink nipples and a big belly but I can't feel any moving kittens is this normal? I have made her a nesting box and she has taken to it well and I have homes for the kittens she might have but what else should I do? I have put her on kitten food is this right? Thank you in advance

Re: My cat uggs is pregnant and I have a few questions

In my (18 years of) experience, the overwhelming majority of cats do not look pregnant at 3 weeks, most do look pregnant at 5 weeks but with a very small litter it can be as late as 6 or 7 weeks. At 4 weeks it is a matter of "is she or isn't she?" where I am suspicious but not certain. Faced with a cat where you have only just realised she is pregnant, I'd be guessing at 5 weeks. You won't feel movement until at least 7 weeks.

Yes, kitten food is fine. There's nothing else to do except wait. We will be here for you when the birth is nearer.

Thank you Liz. I did think she was getting bigger 2 weeks ago but I put it down to her eating lots more. But I am very sure she is pregnant. I am very excited but scared as a mother (of 4) I worry that I can't take the pain of birth away

Re: My cat uggs is pregnant and I have a few questions

She could be six or seven weeks gone by now then.

Don't worry about her giving birth, quite often they show no signs of pain at all and I'm sure it's nothing like humans giving birth - multiple births of small babies are a lot easier than the birth of a single large one. Most cat births are perfectly straightforward. You do need to know what to look out for in terms of things going wrong but we will be here for you.

Re: My cat uggs is pregnant and I have a few questions

Is the ginger and white cat the father? Great to hear you got him neutered!!

After 3-4 weeks you might notice her nipples become pink and bigger in size.

The bump will develop at 5 weeks onwards, and by 7 weeks you will feel little flutters on her tummy.

Do you know when the mating occured?
