Cat insurance help please

My friend is looking to breed her cat and she has asked me about insurance just incase she will need a caesarean if anything goes wrong.

Does anyone know if you can get insurance for breeding cats and if so what companies are the best?

Many thanks

Re: Cat insurance help please

Ive never found one, just have to save up, I was quoted £550 for a csection which didnt include meds, and £700 from another vet.

Re: Cat insurance help please

I don't use one. I think the premiums would be far too prohibitive even if an insurer was willing to do it. I put money from the sale of my kittens into an emergency cat fund. It earns a little bit of interest and I know I have enough funds if anything goes wrong.

Re: Cat insurance help please

I don't know how it works in england but in italy pet insurances don't cover for any surgery connected with reproduction. So c-sections are not covered at all and neither id the refund for the death of a breeding cat due to a cesarian.

None of the companies I know will insure against any type of pregnancy problem (and I've looked at every pet insurer I can find). Sorry.

Re: Cat insurance help please

I have Professional Health Insurance with Petplan Sanctuary as I board Cats, but even this has a clause saying if a Cat is boarded in a Preganant State it is the Owners responsability if a Problem occurs whilst Boarding with regards to the Pregnancy.

It is just one of those things we have to accept and plan for as breeders, most breeders I know have an emergency fund, set aside that they just simply forget about in a seperate account gaining interest, unless it is needed
