because I live on the continent, when I research this on google, I get Dutch and German artciles before I get English language ones.
I read French and Italian but sadly not German or Dutch - my Dutch is limited to some very random phrases a taxi driver taught me in Amsterdam when he took me and my friends home

I was hesitant about posting my concerns as I hate people to take that as me not being committed to genetic health when I am very strongly in favour of doing all reliable testing which is required to satisfy ourselves that our cats are healthy ....

I am definitely interested in doing this test but would like to see more about it first if that makes sense?

My cats are all PKD negative (testing is required by our registration policy) - if this test can give us real indications about HCM then it will be a godsend to us breeders as we can then reassure ourselves we are doing the very best by our cats and by way of the new breeding policies being created in conjunction with the GCCF then if the test proves reliable it could be written into those policies? I know the GCCF is seriously committed to the genetic health.

Please do update when the research is published?

Hi Soupie,

I totally agree with all you say here, I am really hoping a lab like Langford will take up the cause I am more than willing to publish all my results to help with any research. I will keep you personally updated .

sorry, I didn't explain myself very well, I meant my knowledge of genetics is sooooo poor that I am on very shakey ground whenever I get on to this subject.

I am much the same.... although I don't breed.... I am totally in favour of breeding healthy and happy cats.

I am just not convinced that this gene test is ........ all it's cracked up to be, or even a step in the right direction. I am not convinced of the ethics of the labs offering the test.

But I would be here for ever and a day if I even tried to quote from some of the Dutch articles I have read on this subject in the last few weeks (translation is very time consuming) and I don't speak German either, so two bsh breeding friends have been translating pertinent German artciles for me. If I quoted from these, and they had made a simple translation fault, that fault then becomes mine. And I am just not willing to stick my neck out that far.

I just know as much as I am committed to healthy bsh's (and other breeds with HCM) I still have my concerns about this test and its wider implications.
