Question How many queens

Could anyone tell me how many queens should you have before you buy your own stud to keep him happy

Re: How many queens

I was told by an experienced breeder friend at least 3, which is why i'm only getting my 1st stud boy later in the year.
Also to space out the matings, so he is'nt left frustrated from having them all at once...which does & has happened

Re: How many queens

About 50 (only joking!)

I have one stud and five queens. I certainly don't feel I have anywhere near enough work for two studs, though the fact that one of the girls flatly refuses to come into call doesn't help. The poor boy has had no-one at all for six weeks, and since two of the girls are pregnant and two have babies, it looks most unlikely that any of them will be calling again before the spring.

Re: How many queens

4 is the usual number advised, and space them out, the more queens he has the more he will want, so long as he has plenty of things to entertain him, he'll be okay with them.
