good food for new mum?

My friends cat looks like she's expecting again (her first litter are 13weeks old and she's looking really fat around the middle). She is getting kitten food but obviously is still quite skinny from her babies so is there anything else she can have to build her up?
Oh, and in answer to the obvious question-why didn't you get the cat neutered you irrensponsible moron?
Tabby is a stray and first got preggers whilst my friend was canvasing the area and putting up flyers to try to find her owner(no microchip). Then she mistakenly thought you couldn't neuter, and they couldn't come into season if they were nursing kittens, well now we know
She never displayed signs of calling but is definately in the family way, also the other kittens were a nightmare to wean and wouldn't even touch solid food til 8wks and were'nt eating enuf til 11wks. So anything that could make life easier for her?(no trips ouside til the snip, obviously)

Re: good food for new mum?

has she been wormed ? might be bloated round the belly from worms it's quite common and no sign that you're a bad mummy. it's also easily fixed! but you will need to make sure she and her kittens are wormed. I believe Panacur paste would be the way to go but best to speak to your vets really and let them know what's going on. if it's worms no matter what food you feed she will still be bloated and still look under weight.

i know this sounds horrible but you can also speak to your vets about terminating the kittens if there are some and you don't think you will be able to find homes for them. depending on how far along she is if she is pregnant. you can also donate the kittens to your local charity should you decide to let her continue on to term.
