Re: Chips has had her kittens....

Hi and congratulations on the new litter, they look trrific!

I would be worried like you in the same position. Like your girl mine lost her last litter. She has just had a single kitten this time and is being a much more devoted mother. Personally if I was you I would shut mum in your bedroom with the kits as it will be a nice peaceful dark environment for her and there will be better chance of her hearing the kits once they wake. My girl is shut in my downstairs front room which is my kittening room just like your bedroom. Its up to you whether you do that but if you are at all worried about time spent with them it may ease your mind a bit too

Re: Chips has had her kittens....

If you weigh them everyday, around the same time, then you can tell for sure if they are getting enough. They should increase by an av of 14 grms a day. On the odd day they can stay the same, but if you see a decrease in weight then thats the time to worry.

Re: Chips has had her kittens....

Hiya and thank you Lumpy & Christina!

I think I may have been panicking a bit last night, as shortly after I typed that post she did go back upstairs, settled down and stayed there all night.

She came down breifly again this morning for breakfast, even though I have food up by her box now (Which she had finished!) I think she is just used to having it in our kitchen.

So whilst she ate, I filled up her food upstairs, and weighed both the kittens again quickly, and they have each gained 12g since yesterday, they're bellies are very rounded and full looking!

I've been up a couple of times today for other things (They are in our room so unavoidable sometimes!) and Chips has been with them all day, laying in the box with her head stickg out one end. Either feeding them, or all of them just snoozing.

I went up there just now to put her more food down, and she was in the box, again with her head out, so I gave her a stroke and a head rub and she purred happily, the kittens, well one was feeding, and one was curled up next to her fast asleep, all snuggled in.

Fingers crossed they have all started as they mean to go on!

Chips' brother, Kipper, went in earlier, first time hes noticed I think, had a look, and wondered off uninterested. I think he misses Chips a little though.

Re: Chips has had her kittens....

Thank you! The other replies didnt show up until after I had posted....how odd.

I have a couple of questions, Im not sure if to post here or start a new thread? I'll stick them here for now, and repost later if needed...

I noticed a little blood on her blanket today, its a clean one so its not from the birth, is this normal? There doesnt seem to be much but a bit.

And, Kitten food....what should I get? We have one pouch left, both of my cats have Felix pouches normally and dried food too, they dont like Whiskars or several others we've tried, fussy buggers! We've had Felix Kitten food, but is there something better that would benefit Chips & her babies more? I'm off out to stock up later.

Re: Chips has had her kittens....

The blood is normal,it's spotting a bit like when humans have given birth, this will stop soon and raw red meat is great for nursing mums, egg yolk and honey is another good one for energizing mum, just the yolk of a raw egg and a touch of honey, whatever she eats really as much as she wants

Re: Chips has had her kittens....

Yea, the blood spots is normal
Kitten food I Personally use is Natures Menu & hi Life 60% meat. I also give raw mince beef, & raw rabbit. But, it's not for a lot of people, lol.
If you feed Felix and your cats are happy on that, then feed Felix Kitten.

Thank you for all your help!

I had NO idea about the egg and raw meat, we we definitely try that for her. I will get some honey whilst out.

Gosh, isn't it a learning curve?!
