Re: Chips has had her kittens....
What a lovely family
If you want to make sure the kittens are getting enough and doing fine, just weigh them everyday to make sure they are putting on weight they certainly look lovely and rounded in the picture.

Re: Chips has had her kittens....
Thank you everybody.
I'm getting a bit worried now! Chips came downstairs a couple of hours ago, and came for a fuss in the front room, its the first time she has been in here all day, and she doesnt seem to want to go back up! The kittens are sleeping, and are not crying, at one point they were moving about a little, nudging into eachother but then nodded off together. I took her back up after a while, put her fresh food down (She is eating SO much) and sat on our bed for a while, but when me and my husband came back down, she followed. Is this ok? Hubby says not to worry (Ha! As if!) as the kittens seem content and happy, and are not crying. But I am getting all worked up! Just how much time SHOULD she spend with them? Lise x x |

Re: Chips has had her kittens....
What a gorgeous Mummy cat - and lovely fur babies too.
Tabitha left her kittens on the day they were born which worried me a bit but she doesn't like using a litter tray so insisted on going out to the garden. She would often leave them when they were asleep but I noticed that if I picked them up to check them or they cried slightly she would appear really quickly. They are now 14 weeks and she still washes them and runs up to them if they mieow. She's been a brilliant Mum - I think she just needed a break, but stayed within earshot so if they needed her she was there. Her ideal was if I crawled in my wardrobe (where she chose to give birth, ignoring the box I had prepared in my spare room) and stroked her while she was feeding the kittens. She would purr and purr. I sensed she wanted to be with me and with her babies too. Maybe that is the case with Chips - she wants to be with you? |

Re: Chips has had her kittens....
I think it depends on the cat, how much time they spend with the kittens & from what I've read on here it does seem to vary.
Books that you read on the subject seem to imply the mother cat will barely leave her kittens long enough to eat or drink & may even refrain from going to the toilet. I've not found this to be the case though with mine. I would expect mum to be spending a little more time with her kittens, the great test will be, what she does when they cry. If she returns straight to them & see's to their needs then don't worry she's obviously having 'time out'. As long as the kittens remain warm & she is feeding them regularly there's not too much else you can do other than shut the door of the room she's in. Good luck & please keep asking if you are at all worried that's what we're here for! ![]()

Re: Chips has had her kittens....
If they are well fed, they will sleep and not make much noise. Hungry or cold kittens cry a lot. As there is only 2, she should have plenty of milk to keep them contented. Don't worry too much, just keep an eye that she is actually feeding them.
