Messing everywhere since pregnancy...

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with this...

My cat started messing in the bathroom instead of her litter tray or outside from when she started becoming heavily pregnant. It became more and more frequent up, and I thought it would stop when she had her litter, but it hasn't. She does it everywhere in the house now. The box with her kittens is in the bedroom upstairs & I had the tray in the bathroom as she didnt like leaving her kittens & she would use it, but sometimes would just go next to it or do it downstairs even when the tray was fresh.

She started leaving her kittens a lot, going outside etc. so I moved the tray downstairs but the problems carried on. She was sometimes going in the bathroom, kitchen, dining room. Yesterday I saw her after she had messed in the kitchen, & she walked to her litter tray afterwards & started scraping the litter

My sister has had her for about 6 months & she can't handle it anymore, as soon as the kittens are on solids she's going to get rid of the cat if I don't take her back, but I don't want her if she's going to carry on like this. What can we do?

There are two possible thoughts that strike me as I read this Harley. The first was that it could just be down to her being an entire female and that is what some queens do - the solution to this is to decide if you want her to continue to have babies and if not, then get her spayed.

The second thought was that she may have a urinary infection and its possible she finds it uncomfortable to wee - the answer to this is to take her to the vet to check it out.

I am sure that there will be others with more thoughts on this. Wishing you a happy solution to this annoying problem.

excellent response and i would have to agree.

when you say mess do you mean poo or wee or both? she may just be marking because she's got the kittens(nesting and marking territory) and has too much access to all of the house too soon. keeping her in the same room with the kittens and a litter box might help this instead of giving her free roam. you will need to get rid of the markings as well with cleaning if you have a search round the site you will find some excellent recommendations (vodka, simple solution, nature's miracle etc..) just stay away from ammonias.

also is she eating and drinking ok? does she seem stressed?

Thanks for your responses, she's pooing & weeing (I couldn't think of a way to put it without sounding crude ) Yeah it gets cleaned up straight away, she has been really skinny since she had the kits but seems to be eating and drinking fine and she always was quite skinny.

She acts really weird actually, she'll leave the kittens & wander around aimlessly. She'll come for a stroke when i call her then get irritated and walk off when I try stroking her. If I stroke her while she's with the kittens she seems happy. She walks to the back of the garden then walks back inside. She keeps moving the kittens into ridiculous places.... my sister woke up one morning to find that they were gone & was looking around for ages, the cat was meowing at her. Eventually she found them in the back of the airing cupboard tucked behind a massive pile of towels... the cat couldn't even get there to feed them

might be best to give your vets a ring to see if they can observe any other odd behaviour. wouldn't want her to have an infection and you not know it.
