Chips due kittens in next few days...VERY nervous..
Hiya all,
I posted here a while ago to say I suspected my cat was pregnant, she had recently had 2 kittens who both died within 2 days as we dont think she was feeding them and after seeking advice from emergency vet, we tried to hand rear but it was too late. She then escaped several times from an open window whilst waiting to be neutered (We're not used to closing windows!) and she is now over 8 weeks pregnant, she is due on Saturday, I think, as I notied in my diary that she got out that day and there was a tom hanging about, but it could be a couple of days before. She is HUGE and today i saw her belly moving with the babies, and I feel them regularly. I was surprised to see movement as she is very fluffy so its hard to see. She has been rooting about upstairs and getting herself into all sorts of nooks and crannies so I am sure that the kittens are imminent. I am so SO nervous, I am so scared she might not look after them again, or that she might have trouble during the birth etc, she gave birth over night in my daughters walk in wardrobe last time without any of us knowing, I want to be with her this time, make sure she is ok but I'm quite squeamish and a bit scared about it. How will I know if I need to help her? We've been keeping her in now but if I ever leave a window even an inch open, shes off! Luckily she comes back straight away when called. Also, how can I encourage her to have them in a certain place? She's been in and out of my wardrobe a lot so today I cleared one side of it out and put her a nice bed in there, now shes not interested! Thanks for reading...and sorry for going on. I just so want everything to be ok, this willbe our final experience with kittens as she will be neutered as soon as possible after the birth, andI just want it to go well. Lise. PS - Attached a piccy of her, taken over the weekend. ![]() |

Re: Chips due kittens in next few days...VERY nervous..
Chips is a lovely looking cat.
With regards to hoping she'll have her kittens where you want her to, the only sure way is to use a kittening pen. Failing that just provide a couple of cardboard boxes & hope she picks one. From all the stories on here she is bound to pick the most inconvienient place she can find anyway! ![]() Hopefully she will know what is expected of her this time, pretty much leave her to get on with it herself as some cats don't like too much interference & can manage really well on their own. The main things to worry about are if she is in active labour for an hour (looking like she's pushing) without producing a kitten. It may be stuck & she may need assistance. Also that any kittens that are born, mum removes the sac from around their heads really quickly so they can breath. In most cases healthy kittens thrive & cats are supposed to be the most accomplished natural mothers ![]() Really good luck this time ![]()

Re: Chips due kittens in next few days...VERY nervous..
Thanks for your messages, I havent been able to get online for a day or 2.
Chips is a moggie I guess, her Mum is a Norwegian Forest and her Dad, a local tom! She looks very much like her mum in many ways, colouring etc, but has more tabbyish marking sometimes, where as her mum was more marbled. We have her brother too (Castrated!) and her is even fluffier, they are such loving loyal cats. Our first cats, we adore them. For the last 2 days she has pretty much slept solidly, waking to eat, and follow me around a bit. Shes sleeping upstairs a lot, and is normally a downstairs windowsill cat, so this in itsself is odd, though I am 90% sure she will have the kittens upstairs. She seemed a little off her food this morning, despite crying for it the minute and came down, and has pretty much slept ever since! I'm both nervous ans excited, I'm checking her every half hour (Am I obsessed?!) and am not going out anywhere unless I have too. We normally spend the weekend over at the inlalws, which is only 5 mins away, but we're staying here this weekend, and will do until they arrive and everything is OK. Am also a little jealous of her...she is nearing the end now, I am 7 months pregnant and feel like I have been all year! Lisa |
