Starting to worry...

Hi guys.

Just under 2 weeks to go now until my baby is due.

I've bought everything i could need and need some advice.

Someone suggested a babygrow to keep the kittens from drinking her milk for the 1st 24 hours. I got one and 'modelled' it on one of my other cats and cut the arms and legs to size. He is a similar size to her and it fits well.

Obviously it is open at the back to let the tail out, and the bottom for doing the loo. The way the poppers work you couldnt close the entire bum area anyway because of the tail.

The cat that tried it on is very placid and was a very good boy but he was distressed by it and wouldn't walk properly with it on. He was trying to bite it and get it off so i had to remove it.

I have 2 worries:

* What if a kitten managed to get inside it from the bum area? How can i prevent this?

* What if she becomes distressed about wearing it? I don't want to upset her after she has just given birth, or ruin the chances of her bonding with her babies.

Basically should i go with the babygrow idea, or just keep the kittens in a cat carrier for the 24 hours i need to have them separated? I don't know what's for the best!!

Re: Starting to worry...

you can buy specially made for cats ... protective vest things.... i will see if i can google and find a link for the things i mean.... a lot of people use them after an operation to stop the cat getting at the stitches and so they dont have to use a lampshade collar...

let me go google...

Pet Vet Care Online Emergency Supplies - Bandaging

these are the type of things I mean. Persononally I have seen ones that look much sturdier than these (these ones strike me as being a bit flimsy).

Re: Starting to worry...

I had a yorkie bitch with eclampsia a few years ago and had to stop the pups from feeding from her but didnt want to take them away from her as her cleaing them and me feeding them was the best thing for them , i bought a couple of pairs of tights and cut the toe end of and then cut the leg of higher up and put it over her tummy , it worked really well and is so easy just to slide it over her . just chenged them twice a day and put a clean one on whilst washing the others . I would just do this and leave the kittens with her so she can still bond with them and just keep yourself awake for that 24 hours so you can keep an eye on everything .

Re: Starting to worry...

That would be brilliant if you still have it please pm me.

I would rather not keep the kittens away from their mother.
