Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

I wondering if my queen is pregnant. Is it too early at 3 weeks to notice extreme personality changes?

She's a two year old Siamese. She went to stud on Oct. 19. A mating was witnessed on Oct. 21. This is my first pregnancy with her, but her second.

Her nipples are slightly pinker than usual, but I'm not 100% convinced that this is "pinking up". She's also gained a tiny bit of weight (2 oz from pre-mating), but she lost a fair amount while visiting the stud (9.5 oz), so total gain since she's been back home is 11.5 oz.

She's usually a fairly distant cat. She usually comes for attention 1-2 times a day for about 15 minutes, or so, then does her own thing.

We went away on vacation from Oct. 27-Nov. 7 (someone stayed with them while we were gone). Since we've been back, she's been following me around the house, demanding attention constantly. She slept in my lap for over an hour (she never does this). Unless she's sound asleep, she never lets me out of her sight.

Our other two girls don't seem to have been affected by our absence. They are both acting completely normal.

I'm wondering which is more likely: Is her personality change due to pregnancy or because of our trip? Is 3 weeks too early to notice personality changes?

Any advice or personal experiences would be a great help! I'm extremely excited about the possibility of her being pregnant.

Thanks!

Sounds positive yeah!!

I also wouldn't bother with weighing. I weighed my queen every week (she is now 7 weeks pregnant) and she's only gained 2lbs!!

The gain isn't big enough for human scales.

Fingers crossed for a positive result for you.

Re: Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

Thanks for your responses! I was so worried it was too early, and she just missed me way too much!

I've weighed my cats bi-weekly to monthly since I brought them home as kittens, so it's habit now. I guess I'm just weird that way. I like to know.

I use a digital food scale, not a human scale. It's much more accurate.

Congrats alisondalziel! I hope everything goes extremely well in 2 weeks. You must be excited! I wouldn't think 2lbs is bad so far, with 2 more weeks to go.

Re: Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

why do you weigh them? it dosent raelly matter how muc hthey weigh as long as they arent overweight/fat, some cats are muscle like my old boy half siamese but he weighs over a stone but he doesnt look it.

some cats are bigger boned some are slender!

Re: Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

Thanks so much, i'm really excited now

Some people like to weigh regularly to monitor health. A marked weight loss can be a sign of something being wrong. It's not weird to weigh, just your preference and way you like to do things.

One question though, how do you fit a cat on digital kitchen scales!!???
I have a set for tiny kittens, but a full grown cat? please enlighten me

Re: Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

I don't really have a reason why I weigh them. I just do. They're trained to do it and get rewarded for it so it only takes a few minutes. For me, it's kinda the same as tracking my daughter's height on the doorframe.

The scale I use has a flat top. If you put the "dish" on it before you turn it on, it calculates at zero. I place a small plastic basket on it, and have my cats trained to climb in. Once they're in it, I give them a treat. They eat it, stand somewhat still long enough for me to read the weight, then climb out. It works great.

Re: Personality Changes in a (pregnant) Queen

I can't remember when Cotton started to show signs... don't think it was early as 3 weeks...

She's an affectionate cat anyway but she would follow me everywhere. She just wanted to be close to me all the time.

Of course her appetite went through the roof.

She used to love her belly tickled but she would not tolerate it at all in pregnancy.

She became very 'snappy' with my partner and our dogs.

That's all I remember for now.
