Request for breeding queen

Thought I would let you know that I have just had to turn someone down who wanted a queen from me.
I sent her detailed emails and asked a few question to guide her into telling me about myself, but I got back one worded answers.
When I gave her the details of how it would be done she told me she would think about it.
Sorry but thats not good enough - she obviously wasnt serious enough and I have had to tell her that I think its best she finds her new queen from someone else.

Sorry but my gut feeling was all wrong. My mentor is always telling me to go with my gut feeling. I wouldnt have felt comfortable giving one of my kittens away as a queen to this person as she wasnt very forthcoming - which immediately makes you suspicious.
I remember when I was looking for a queen, i had loads of hoops to jump through before anyone would even think about entertaining me.

Anyone else had to do anything similar?

Re: Request for breeding queen

I dont sell any of my kittens on the active as it's more trouble than it's worth but if I did I would go by my instincts. There must be a reason why this person is not giving you much information but it doesn't sound good either way.
You have done the right thing in telling her to find a queen elsewhere.

I'd have done exactly the same and I guess most of would have done. One word answers are not confidence inspiring!

Re: Request for breeding queen

Forgot to ask whether this person who wants a queen from you is just starting up in breeding or is already established.

Re: Request for breeding queen

Well Saffron, I agree with you. I have never had to deal with anyone like this but if ever it happened, the same feelings and suspicions would be aroused. You cannot allow a potential queen kitten to go to someone for whom it all goes their way - its give and take and from the sound of things, you may have been doing all the giving had you allowed the transaction to take place.

Good for you.

Doesn't matter whether the person is established or not, they should still extend the same courtesy by way of introductions. In fact, if the person WERE an established breeder, they would have understood more clearly how important it is to be frank and honest when you want such a big thing from someone.

Re: Request for breeding queen

It wouldn't matter to me either it's the way they conduct themselves when enquiring that's more important. I recently turned down a well known judge who wanted a queen for showing/breeding because of the way she communicated.(one who clearly wouldn't take no for an answer)

Re: Request for breeding queen

I agree with whats been said from the talking to the new breeder side of things and if they don't open up then there is something a bit dodgy. However I would advise peeps not to take buyers on first appearances. I had a lad wanting to start breeding, and discussed it with him at length, when he came to my house it was with his 'boyfriend' and he was covered in piercings. I kept an open mind and he has turned out to be one of the nicest people I know. He still keeps in touch today and has done very well with his breeding.

So all i'm saying really is first appearances can be deceptive, also some peeps are shy and not very good at voicing their thoughts. You may have to coax things out, and give them a chance to explain what they want. If that doesnt work then get suspicious

Re: Request for breeding queen

I wouldn't sell an active kitten to anyone as I don't understand enough the pedigrees etc and wouldn't be able to offer advice on studs they could use or anything. It's too much responsibility. I'd look into finding a vet to early neuter. Why don't you just tell her you ain't got no kittens since you haven't and then don't answer her anymore.

HA! Typical playground stuff if you ask me, Saffron. Just ignore it. That just goes to show you made the right decision in the first place.
