Anyone had a litter of kittens while pregnant or with young baby?

Hello,
Just wondered if anyone has experiance of having litters of kittens when pregnant themselves as I was planning a litter from my Siamese (she has had a litter before and is a show cat) and got people saying I couldn't while I was pregnant and would have to forget it for a long time. I seem to get ractions from some that you can't combine animas with young children and that they are some sort of dirty creatures that carry loads of disease I even had a coment that I could inhale a disease from the litter tray that could affect my unborn child.
Just wondeed if any of you had to deal with this sort of thing.

I think the only reason it may be risky is that cat poo contains bacterias that could be very harmfull to an unborn baby.. Now with having a litter of kittens it would probably increase the risk of contracting this bacteria as there will be more poo to clean etc.

You do have to be very carefull, personally I wouldn't risk it but if your cat is already pregnant then just try and be ultra carefull and wear disposable rubber gloves when cleaning litter trays etc

As for animals not being allowed to mix with children, well thats stupid.. animals are great for a child to learn to respect another living creature and be responsible for it

There is a disease you can pick up from your cats tray that can affect your unborn child. You should at the very least if there is no one else to clean up after them wear rubber gloves to clean it out especaially when they have pooed. As this is what carries the disease im sure its called toxoplasmosise not sure if thats spelt right . I am suprised your midwife or doctor has not warned you of this as it can be very dangerous to unborn children. Cant help on the breeding side as never bred cats since i was little but when i was pregnant with my first son my mother in law wanted me to get rid of my cats and dog as she thought they were dirty etc. Needless to say they all stayed and we never had any problems with them at all.

Hi, I know about the disease you can get from the litter trays and so I have a roll and clean tray so i am not directly touching it and also wear gloves.
My cat isn't pregnant now, If she were mated my other half would be with me then and would sort the trays for me (not that he likes it)
My doctor knows me well and knows I've always had animals, she said just to wash hands regularly and wear gloves when doing trays. I do use conficlean to wash them too. I think when you have animals you do tend to do a lot more cleaning as your more aware.

Didn't mean to sound naive about the litter trays it's just i was under the impression it was picked up from contact with fecal matter, not be breathing it in.

I wouldn't think it is advisable, simply because you possibly wouldn't have the time to devote to your girl and her babies. She would ideally be your highest priority during that time and she possibly wouldn't be.

Siamese are like having children, they see themselves as part of the family, and your girl will probably need time to adjust to the new member of your family. It will be alot of stressers for her all coming at the same time.

Yes it's my first, expecting a little girl (22 weeks pregnant). I was thinking more towards waiting til baby was born but didn't know when things settle as it's my first baby and worry about if my siamese calls to much she will be stressed and would be better on the jab (ovarid) if it's going to be a while. She isn't calling at the moment so thats a releif, she seems very content.

It will probably take you a while to settle into a routine with little 1 I know it did when i had mine. I have 2 boys and to be honest would have found it hard sorting them out and kittens as well. At the end of it, it has to be your decision but i would personally wait and have time with your daughter they change so much in the first few months you wouldnt want to miss anything. I got a new niece 3 weeks ago and she is changing rapidly they grow so quick. Dont want to sound harsh but you can have kittens any time but you will never get those first months back with your daughter but it is your decision really. Good luck with your pregnancy hope all goes well
