Re: choosing a breeder
Depends on whether you are buying for pet or for show/breed, both avenues are slightly different.
My pets were found via adverts in Catworld most of them initially, then you find yourself passed on from breeder to breeder until you find one with the right litter of kittens, but thats going back 11 years now. The girls I have bought for breeding were from people I had met and got to know after showing. How did you choose yours Fluff ?

Re: choosing a breeder
I agree with the speaking to people who have bought kittens off the breeder, i think other's experience's if good show alot really xx
I would say speaking to other breeders that breed the same breed but i sometimes they've not heard of them and sometimes you can get biased reviews aswell x when i was choosing my breeders some i went off of recommendations from other breeders and some i just got to know and found i liked them xx |

Re: choosing a breeder
Alfie was my first pedigree cat, I did alot of research on the breed but didnt really know what to look out for breeder wise.. so ended up going to the first breeder I found
![]() But with Lola I managed to get in touch with a lady who is GCCF registered and after going to visit her realised how professional she was and all her cats were a picture of health |

Re: choosing a breeder
I was looking for a pet.
1. Googled the cat breed: found the GCCF affiliated breed clubs, the nascient TICA breed club site. 2. Looked at all the breeders' websites within a reasonable distance from me. These were listed in the affiliated club sites. Checked what they said, looked at their cats. Kept on looking. 3. Checked any links on the breeder websites. 4. Decided I did not want a kitten so looked for adoptees. 5. Did some checking on this site: PawPeds - Maine Coon Heritage Site looking for pedigrees 6. Contacted breeder and asked questions. |

Re: choosing a breeder
For me I found it hard to find a breeder who was willing to let me into the breeding world - and so my choice of breeder was very limited.
Obviously this will be different for pet buyers. But my main thing was that my breeder (who also became my mentor) was very open and honest and let me come and see her kittens before I had even decided I was having one from her. She had nothing to hide and was very knowledgable & helpful ![]() |

Re: choosing a breeder
I found my cats breeder on the Ragdoll cat club website. I then viewed her website, looked good... enough info and photos etc.
I then emailed her and asked her alot of questions. She answered them all, and made me feel comfortable and didn't give off the impression that she was getting fed up with all the questions. She also asked me quite a few too! ![]() The next thing was to go see the kittens in their home. You can tell by someones house and cats what type of breeder they are. All looked well to me, so I went for it. |

I am soon to breed my first litter and I get kitten enquiries from people who have found my site and said how much they love my cats, and they can see they are part of my family....what a nice thing to say. |
