Registering as Active

I have just seen an advert for a litter of self and colourpointed kittens, registered as active. Now as far as I can tell self x colourpoint litters can't be registered as active, is this right? So the only way this litter could be registered is both parents were self but carried colourpoint? think i'm getting the genetics bit but please let me know if i'm right or not!

Re: Registering as Active

As far as I know, ANY cat can be registered on active by the breeder or the person who first registers it. It's just it might have to go down as "no recognised breed"

Or if Self to CP breeding really is frowned upon in BSH, they would be Reference register or Supplemental, but they can still be Active. (Not a lot different to Siamese x Oriental SH matings in that case).

I would check with the GCCF or the BSH breed club as to the ins & outs of that, but as Liz says, even cats on the Reference register (new breeds in development/cross breeds) can still be Active.

Note 8a. Any Self or Tortie BSH cat with a Colourpointed BSH Parent will be registered on the Supplementary and Non-Active Registers or, if the application is for registration on the Active Register, the cat shall also be placed on the Genetic Register.

Colourpointed offspring of these cats on the Genetic Register may be registered in the normal way.

Any Self or Tortie BSH offspring of these cats shall continue to be registered on the Non-Active or Genetic Registers (as above) unless accompanied by a DNA test showing that this specific offspring does not carry the Siamese gene, when
they may registered on the Active Register without restriction.
