Exclamation Help needed

Eldests young cat went missing at the beginning of May, she has finally been found and brought home. However, yes you've guessed it, she has a full belly. She's going for a check up at the vets tonight, now I know next to nothing about cats and this is eldests first pet without parents and although glad her cat is home (got her back last night) is now panicking. I dont think it can be long before the kittens arrive as she has a very large belly and its quite firm to the touch, eldest felt a little movement this morning. Now the problem is (or maybe I'm making a problem) is the cat has just turned 1. Are there any complications we should be looking for due to her being so young. I know we're going to the vets, but forewarned is forearmed.
We have no idea as to what shes been eating while missing but I have to admit she's looking in good shape so wouldnt be suprised to discover someone has been feeding her.
I've told her to make a large box up for her and put blankets extra in which she has done, but the cat at present is prefering underneath the settee.
Any help extremely gratefully recieved.

Re: Help needed

Sounds like you're doing everything right, and I'm sure the vet will be able to give any further guidance you need. Good luck!

I wouldn't expect any complications due to her age - but if she's to remain an outdoor cat, please get her spayed after the births! I don't know what your plans are for the kittens once they arrive, but there are so many unwanted/unplanned cats and kittens at rescue centres, etc...

Re: Help needed

Thanks, once the kittens are here then mum is getting spayed, it is something I've been banging on about before smudge went missing, but as she was supposed to be a house cat I was just looked and shrugged at. However I think the message has been driven home now, yes I know, the phase with the words, horse and stable door spring to mind.
As far as re-homing the kittens goes, well I suppose it depends on how many are born and whether they all survive. The lady that has found her has expressed a wish for one of the kittens, particularly if there is a ginger one. And beings as she handed her back, then I think eldest is thinking, come and pick which ever one you want. (this lady had had her for a couple of days and had been on to cats protection league to come and collect her in a day or two). Other than that its more than likely take each day as it comes. Will update once we've been to the vets.

Re: Help needed

Well the visit to the vets was productive. Shes got a few fleas. so has a spray to clear them. General health quite good, considering we've no idea where shes been. The vet also xrayed her and it looks like theres three kittens, and they're due anytime. The vet said she'd be suprised if they werent born by the end of the weekend. Grandmonster is insisting that we keep them all and I know that as smudge is near enough all white, if any of her kittens are white then eldest is going to have a hard time letting them go as shes always wanted an all white cat.

Re: Help needed

A year is not too young, there is no cause for alarm.

Just two cautions: 1. vets frequently get the number of kittens wrong and 2. they frequently get the date wrong too.
