Re: Suggestions For Good Cat Club Please

You will perhaps get more out of joining a breed club rather than an "area" club though the breed clubs tend to be more expensive - I think TBRCC (British Ragdoll Cat Club) is about £20 pa - for that you get a couple of newsletters. The Traditional Ragdoll Cat Society is around £10 for joint membership and offers newsletters etc. The breed clubs tend to run seminars/workshops and maybe the odd garden party/or get together at Christmas.

The area clubs tend in the main to be there to support their shows. Some area clubs offer more - I seem to remember hearing the Manchester Cat Club had quite a few social gatherings during the year (more than most clubs) as well as newsletters. I think a lot of clubs have perhaps reduced to sending out one newsletter per year and organising maybe one social gathering - usually meal at Christmas - due, I have to say, to the total apathy of their members! (I can say this as I have served on various club committees and you get the same few people contributing to the newsletters or turning up for the garden party/Christmas meal).

It really depends on what you want and expect from a club. Suggest you surf a few club websites and see what they offer.

Some clubs are quite good but the majority are a waste of space
you only hear from them when your subs are due

Re: Suggestions For Good Cat Club Please

I used to be a member of a number of clubs, but like others have said you don't hear anything from them most of the time. They used to provide new letters etc but most don't now. Although the Old Style Siamese Cat Club does, it has or did have a really good quarterly magazine packed with information.

If you ask around, if you want your prefix form signed, some clubs will do that for you when you join, no need for you to be a member for a year first.
