Re: urgent advice

No this does not mean she is rejecting them, when my cat had kittens, she would walk away from them and take breaks alot. In fact she tended to stay out of the nest when she wasn't feeding them.

My cat also wanted to go outside, I know if your cat likes to go out then its hard to watch her crying at the door (been there!) but its in her and the kittens best interest not to let her out.

If the kittens cry and your cat does not go back to them, then you may have a problem. It is always best to get forumla milk from the vet and have it on hand just incase. Many vets will buy it back off you if you don't need it anyway.

Keep us updated!

Re: urgent advice

No worries, I was in a simular situation to you 7 weeks ago when my cat had an unplanned litter of kittens and everything she did worried me.

One thing I would suggest is that you weigh them (just in some little kitchen scales) they should be putting on a noticable amount of weight each day (about 10grams I think). If you weigh them daily, then you will be able to see that they are all feeding ok.

GoodLuck! You and Mum are going to do just fine!

Re: urgent advice

Mine generally refuse to leave the kittens at all the first day, then from day two they are desperate to get away from them for a while - but only for a very short time then they are back. The time away of course gradually increases. As long as the kittens look well fed and the mother keeps going back, try not to worry.

Liz

Talking Re: urgent advice

Thanx everyone for the advice!
I will deffo take on board all your tips!
She generally stays with them now but about every 1-2 hours she gets up and gets a drink etc. but only leaves them for aboout 5 mins then goes back im just so amazed how tiny they are i've never seen anything like it before because the first time i saw my cat was at 3 weeks so she was alot bigger then what they are. Since having them everyone wants one but we have found good homes already with friends and family but of corse i have to keep one they are too sweet to give them all away. We have already given them tempory names and they are all black and ginger tabby so they are adorable. Ill try get some pics up of them soon!

Re: urgent advice

Some vets will spay your cat whenever, however many do not advise (and wont do it) until your cats milk has dried up. The milk will normally dry up about a week after mum and kittens are seperated. There was a reason for this, but I don't remember what it was.

Once your kittens are eating solids most of them time (prob about 6 weeks) you can stop them feeding from mum, there are several ways you can do this without actually seperating them, such as bandaging mum or putting the kittens in a cage, so they can see each other but not feed. (This is what my vet advised me to do with mine).

If you are in no hurry, you should just wait until the kittens have gone to their new homes. As I am keeping one of my kittens, the vet said I was best to seperate them for a bit as some kittens continue to feed for quite a long time after eating solids (i think it is a comfort thing), also my mum cat is very small and needs to put some weght on and I think the kittens feeding from her is really draining her alot.

Oh gosh, I just had a look at the pics, they are sooooo lovely! Well done mum!!! The look tabby to me, but I am no expert so I may be corrected.
