Hello Everybody,

here some of my birds during breeding!
I hope here to find other bird's fans, in particular of canaries and goldfinches like me and share with them our experience of breeding.

Re: Some photos from my aviary

Excuse me, but for kept do you mean catched???
In Italy it's forbidden to catch wild bird! I think in whole UE it's the same...
And I agree with these law!
If you find a wild bird, let him to live into the wild, just help him as needed, feeding him...but, at the end, give back freedom!

All the best,
Nick

P.S. Where are all the finch's breeder? All busy to reproduce!

Hi Nick
I'm a big bird fan and I breed Gloster canaries. I'll be happy to chat about breeding with you
What kind of canaries do you breed? Are they tame? Have you hand-raised any?
Btw, those pics where cute.

No i most definitely do not mean caught from the wild, i had a pair of captive bred european siskins with leg rings who were hand tame and would land on my hand for sunflowers hearts, i would never keep a wild bird if there was any chance that it could go free and no real bird lover would, i hand-reared a baby blackbird who was super tame as a baby, when i was weaning her i kept contact to a minimum so that our bond would be broken, when she was willing and able we let her go in the garden, it was great standing there watching her flying off free, i was gutted and had a good cry after but we had to do right by her

Re: Some photos from my aviary

Hi,
i'm happy to find breeder here!
I breed typically "canarini di razza spagnola", i don't know exactly english translation, i mean tiny ones, slim, good farmer.
Typically i don't hand-raised my birds, but let nature work, btw when necessary i feed by hand.

Where are you from? did you start reproduction period?
I just started!!!

Nick

@honeybunny: Don't worry about blackbird, thing found a partner and is happy now

In Italy we have FOI as our main birds breeder federation, what's in UK? does exsist a kind of national federation of breeders?

Nick

Re: Some photos from my aviary

I'm from South Africa, and the reproduction period has just finished here. I got two chicks this season, but the are the lovliest little things ever. I didn't hand-raise them, but as they grew, I handled them a lot, and now they are very tame and affectionate. I think I will start a separate thread all about them.
How many canaries do you breed at a time? And how many canaries so you have altogether? I've got one pair of breeding canaries, and one pair of non-breeding ones. And now I have a pair of young adults (the two chicks that I bred). They are kept as pets and are very tame. In my spare time at home, they are almost always riding o my shoulder or flying around the house
