Common Mynah Feather Loss. Please help.
Hello All
This is Estee Lauder my Common Indian Mynah. I rescued her as a tiny chick and hand reared her. She is now nearly 3 years old and in general seems very happy. However she is losing feathers around her beak and I do not know why. It started before her second molt, but after the molt they all grew back. Then this year it was much more pronounced and she must have had her molt this year although it was less obvious and if anything the feather loss is only getting worse. If anyone has any idea why this may be, any info would be much appreciated, cos I would hate to think she was lacking anything. Images can be viewed here: Estee Lauder Photo Gallery by Rufus Blackwell at pbase.com If you need to see then very close up, click original size below image. Any help would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks. Rufus |

Re: Common Mynah Feather Loss. Please help.
She is now better, for anyone in the same situation I will detail the problem and solution.
Here are the details: Common Indian Mynah (acridotheres tristis) Named Estee Lauder. Feather loss around the beak resembling a receding hair line. Photos can be seen at the link below. Estee Lauder Photo Gallery by Rufus Blackwell at pbase.com Vet suggested UV lamp and prescribed liquid vitamins. I also changed her bowl of water to a upright water feeder so she could not pollute her own water and changed to Rob Harvey universal softbill feed. Nothing changed for a few months, but come her next moult she lost a lot of feathers and grew a perfect new set. Sufficient time has now passed that I know for sure she is better and will not lose them again. My gut feeling is that it was definitely the UV or the vitamins. Thanks go to CJ Hall vets in London. |
