DNA sexing Balders.

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone had ever had this done before? My understanding is they have to be around a year old, could anyone tell me how much it is? I want to know firstly for curiosity and secondly I may want to get him a companion budgie, not another tiel if I can help it as I don't want to breed!

Re: DNA sexing Balders.

DNA sexing can be done at any age, although with tiels once they are a year old you should be able to tell by looking at the underside of his/her tail feathers, males are plain, females aren't.

How old is Balders now? Can you post a pic of the underside of the tail feathers?

Re: DNA sexing Balders.

I had my lutino tiel sexed at about 6 months cos i couldnt tell what she was and i was wanting to get her a companion.

I have had most of my birds sexed using Avian Biotech, just pluck a few chest feathers (never had a single one notice this being done, they all just led on their backs quietly!!) and send it off, you get the results back in about a week.

It cost £14 for my new babies breeder to DNA test him and i think that was using a feather.. You have the option of using blood but im a bit squeamish about that. It involves cutting a nail short so it bleeds and i just dont like the idea of it!

I got Balders of Upferret from here. He's coming up to six months ish now. I don't fancy the blood test but chest feathers I could handle!
