Question Hello

Hiya,

I have a question about one of my budgies.

They usually keep themselves very clean, but my yellow budgie in the last week or so, has had some poop stuck on her feathers. It got very matted with poop over the following couple days
The next morning i looked at her, and she had got a good bit of it cleaned up.

My birds are not really hand held, but i can put my hand in the cage and stroke their chest, and they go on my finger. But was really wanting to try and clean her, but i really think she will be to scared.

She has pulled out some feathers it looks, as it is not matted anymore.

If it happens again or gets worst again, can anyone tell me why it happened? or if i can do anything other than spraying them with water? (they enjoy a little spray of water, i put a bath in, but they never used it).

Thanks in advance.
x

Re: Hello

Balders got extremely sleepy and had a messy vent as well as being sick or regurgitating a few times recently.

He's perfectly fine now but I realised it was just him moulting. Lot's of fine feathers and skin flakes all over. I really thought he was ill but a bit of reading later, it's just part of the process.

It takes a lot out of them all that shedding and growing must do. They need lot's of protein in this period. He was sleeping on both feet aswell but I knew in my gut it was just moulting behaviour. I must admit it was a little scary as I've never had a bird moult before, well I've only had him and Timmy and Daisy so it's still all new in most respects. As a lot of that behaviour points to illness you have to be careful.

**(He was still himself and wasn't listless at the bottom of the cage and he was eating and drinking as normal otherwise I would have taken him to the vet)**
