Another behaviour...cockatiel

I put Balders in his cage for a bit to have something to eat, he'd been with me for most of the day as usual. Normally when I put him back and he's finished what he has to do, he'll start sqwarking for me to come and get him, slightly annoying when your trying to get stuff done!

Anyhow this time he started making this noise ( in the video)
sounds like he's doing race car noises lol

link>>>>>>>> YouTube - 087

I went in turned to light on and tried to get him to step up he normally does this straight away. Didn't this time just kept on doing what he does in the vid.

Anyone else had this?
The behaviours are all more or less new to me thats why I want to know what he's doing!

Cheers

Sorry but I'm trying to understand what happened, you said after the video clip

"I went in turned to light on and tried to get him to step up he normally does this straight away. Didn't this time just kept on doing what he does in the vid. "

Doesn this mean you put him in the dark? If so he could be doing an even chorous before sleep which is normal. Although you said you put him in so he could eat? But then I don't understand how you needed to turrn the light on?

I'm confused?

He sounds upset with you? If he was without food and water for a very long period of time this could be the cause. When you have him out try to make sure he has access to food and water if he needs it. I assume he can fly and you don't have his wings clipped??

Re: Another behaviour...cockatiel

Erm...I don't leave him without food or water all day, I'm not cruel to him!

I had him with me most of the day in the bedroom where there is food and water anyway as Timmy and Daisy are flying around, but he likes to sit on my shoulder a lot.

It was getting dark when I went downstairs so I just put him is his cage to have some food if he wanted while I had a brew and stuff. I went in to the living room where he was because he started to make the weird noises, he carried on doing it then I turned on the light as there wasn't enough light to video him with my mobile. In the video I put my finger up to him to step up but he didn't. He doesn't do a chorus song or anything yet, he's quite quiet actually. He still just sqwarks and does the occasional different noises he is only 4 and a bit months old so still learning to do all the whistleing.

The noises are different to the sqwarks he makes when he's calling for me or wants to know where I am. It just seemed like a behaviour noise type of thing.

Re: Another behaviour...cockatiel

Hi, oh did your's do that to? The reason why I posted about the noise he's doing is because he doesn't really make that much noise at all! I wouldn't mind if he made a few more noises. He just calls for me (loud sqwark) and the noise I would say is equivalent to a cat's purr when you scratch his ears for him!

He has made a few different noises once when my brother came round one day but the rest of the time he's quite quiet.

I've been playing on Lego Star wars in the living room recently and he seems to pay a lot of attention to R2 D2's roboty blips and noises but he hasn't repeated anything as yet. I've not played on it for a week or so, who knows, I suppose if I keep playing on it a bit more he might start to make some more sounds?? I hope

More of my brilliant camera skills. I'm bored so I thought I'd wind Balders up with my Finger cursor on my computer. He's looking for it behind the screen lol

Oh by the way he's finally found his voice, well his noisy voice. No songs or talking yet but he's come out of himself voice wise with leaps and bounds, I'm so proud! I'll try and capture some of his classic vocals 1`<<<< that was him standing on the keyboard by the way..lol

Re: Another behaviour...cockatiel

Sounds to me as if he's practicing his song. Usually only male cockatiels will sing a whistly tune, but with everything it takes practice. Soon he will sing a really lovely tune (the biggest part I miss about no longer keeping cockatiels).

If he's starting to sing then he's very happy

Re: Another behaviour...cockatiel

Aww show us some piccies!

Oh and something else Balders loves to do and he has in common with my 4 year old... everything has to be on the floor. I have a nik nak tray on my PC desk that needs to be empty and every little tid bit must be carried away, nibbled then taken to the side of the desk, dropped on the floor and stared at! AND he thinks he has rights on anything your eating. I caught him this morning perched on my daughters cereal bowl trying to eat her cruncy nut cornflakes! My dad had already stopped him twice. She won't shoo him away because he likes to nibble your fingers first. He's just like a flamin puppy lol
