Smoking and Birds

hey all, sadly I am a smoker but I have cut down a lot and im trying hard to quit. I have heard reports that its not good to smoke around birds so I think I am going to hold off getting my canary till I can quit.
I was wondering what your thoughts were?

Re: Smoking and Birds

Yes either don't get a bird until you quit or smoke outside.
Smoke can kill birds.
Well done for actually thinking of this before buying a bird as many people wouldn't
Good luck with quitting

Re: Smoking and Birds

Birds dont do well with smoke and can cause them to get respestory problems also air freshnres and polish is not good to spray around them either.

Re: Smoking and Birds

Yes to all above. I'm a light smoker but I smoke outside for the benefit of everyone else really, above all my little girl and our fish and my cockatiel who's downstairs. Smoking around any animal or person is bad, even your walls get messy! One thing I make sure I do though is wash my hands after I have smoked and want to handle Balders (Cockatiel)

Good on you either way for even thinking about giving up

Re: Smoking and Birds

Personally, İ think passive smoking is as bad for any animal as it is for humans. Smoke outside!

personally i think making any animal passively smoke is irresponsible, but thats just my opinion, i hate smoking, im a thoracic nurse and see the horror it causes in humans.
