Charlie my cockatiel wont try new foods

Hi there, Charlie my beautiful cockatiel will eat prepared shop seed but will not try anything else. I've tried fruit both fresh and dried also various veggies boiled egg. crackers.almost everything I can think of. I thought maybe I wasn't leaving it with him for long enough so I put a dried apricot on a clip, this is the second day now and he hasn't as much as sniffed at it. I am lost now on what to do, any ideas. He is 5 months old and comes onto my finger and will eat millet from my hand. I let him out every day he is vocal and energetic and has lots of toys in his cage and also has a play gym. Any help would be great.

Re: Charlie my cockatiel wont try new foods

Try short periods without a seed supply...not long though. If the bird doesn't want to try other foods there's not much you can do.Just make sure you offer a range of seeds that have the varied vitamins for a healthy diet.Any bird food specialist on google should be able to help you with a bit of searching.

Re: Charlie my cockatiel wont try new foods

Hi, sometimes the smaller birds are lazy or struggle with fresh food, try cooked veg, mashed or grated so it is small and easy to eat, my budgies love spinach, i hang this on a clip in their cage and it is gone every day, they also like water cress and cress ( including foraging through the soil) very messy but they love it.
Fruit i usually hang very small pieces on a skewer in the cage but they dont always eat the fruit.
Hope this helps
Emma
