khaki Campbells sick?

Heya,
I've got three Khaki campbell ducklings, 2 of them are 4 weeks old and the other is only 3 weeks old. In 2 or 3 days the two older ducks have been sprouting feathers, but have also developed a lack of appetite and unbalanced heavy walking, with protruding hips.

I'm a first time duck keeper and wondering if this behaviour is normal for growing ducks of this age, or if there is an obvious solution to this?

Thanks in advance,
Jacob

Re: khaki Campbells sick?

What are you feeding them?, and are they still under a heat lamp? Ducks do have quite an obvious pelvis so may look like it is sticking up if you're not used to them, but it is the lack of appetite I'd be worried about - ducks are voracious eaters.
Have you been weighing them to see if they are gaining or loosing any weight? If I were you I'd have a word with your vet - baby birds go down hill very quickly so waiting around is not an option with them!
Also where did you get them from are they from the same place, and if no when did you introduce them together - birds from different places carry different bugs so easily get sick just from being in contact with new birds, they also stress easily so are more prone to come down with something.
So more info needed!!

Re: khaki Campbells sick?

hey,

The ducklings looked so much better this morning i was pleased to see, and eating as normal!

I first off was feeding them chick & duck crumbs(non-medicated), but started feeding them grower pellets after they looked really poorly. perhaps they're past the crumbs stage, and that's why they look better. is this a likely bet?

they're not under a heat lamp as i'm keeping them indoors untill they're older. and they were all bought from the same place where they were kept together.

Thanks
