George died - can anyone help?

My Daughter had two Kakarikies, George and Kiki. George was about 18 months old and at lunch time I could hear him squaking away and jabbering as he used to, however when my Daughter came home from school and went upstairs to say hello to them she found George on the floor breathing strangley. She immediately took him out but he died in her hand.

I know prey animals do tend to 'drop dead' rather than show signs of illness first but I can't believe that at lunch time he was shouting his head off and only 3 hours later he was dead?

Do you think Kiki will pine for him, she really doesn't seem happy tonight. They live in my Daughters bedroom as that is the place she spends most of her time!

We have moved Kiki into a smaller cage and they used to share a large parrot cage together and I thought it might help her a little to be in somewhere smaller - have I done the right thing?

Sorry I can`t offer any help, but i wanted to say i was sorry about poor George

I think it would be worth trying to keep Kiki occupied as best you can, with new treats and toys, so she has something else to think about.
she will no doubt be missing her companion.

Re: George died - can anyone help?

Poor George...That could be a hundred different things from respiratory disease to a seed husk blocking the airway or something in the food.
If you are going to re use that cage I recommend you scour it with hot soapy water and disinfectant just in case.
Difficult if you introduce another bird as they may not get on...make a fuss of the one left to help make up for the companionship loss.

I have two cages next to each other...one with my conure Robbie in it and one with a pair in...I lost the male of the pair last year.No way will Robbie tolerate the remaining female so I have to have two seperate cages...little devil,I could use the space if they would live together.
