Bird health and nutrition
Some of the most popular bird species kept as pets belong to
the taxonomic order known as passerines. This includes the canary (Serinus canarius) and the zebra finch (Poephila guttata). Despite their worldwide popularity, relatively little information is available on the nutritional requirements of these birds. The following studies were carried out at the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition (WCPN) to compare the energy and nutrient intakes and energy metabolizability of these two small passerine species. ------------------------- Freya Last edited by tashi; 10-11-2008 at 07:50 AM.. Re: Bird health and nutrition
A varied diet largely made up of live foods will give you the healthiest bird. By live foods we mean vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Dead foods are foods that don't spoil quickly (i.e. packaged seeds & nuts). That might seem like a simplistic description, but it is actually quite accurate. A healthy, correct diet can add DECADES to your birds' lives.
