Lovesick Lovebird?

HELP!

I have a large aviary with, until yesterday 7 lovebirds and 6 budgies

However, yesterday the 'single' lovebird (whose mate died approx 2 months ago) turned on all the other birds, and injured one of the other lovebirds quite badly. . . . . What should I do?

I have put the bid in a cage on his own, and the aciry and the remaining birds are very content, but this little lovebird on his own in the cage is not. . . . . is it a phase? Is this normal?

I can't find a 'single' lovebird for sale locally, as I was going to try and pair him up, . . . .

Does anyone have any advice? Or a need for a single lovebird!

Re: Lovesick Lovebird?

Have you tried on gumtree and preloved?
Also if there is a local pet market/auction you could maybe enter him in there

Re: Lovesick Lovebird?

Like Poohdog says it's a difficult one. There named Lovebirds because they look so cute when cuddled up together on a perch. But I've found on ocasion they can be nasty and agreesive and almost homocidal in nature, killing and half eating their companions. Unfortunately once it has happened I have difficulty trusting the offending bird in question. I think it's better to remove the bird or give it away to someone who will keep it separately, and start again with some new breeding stock.

Animals evolve mentally as well as physically and when a bad characteristic emerges it's better not to breed from them and allow them to pass it on to the next generation.
