Unhappy Budgies are dying!

I have 4 pairs of budgies that I bought from seperate pet shops last year and have been left in an aviary by themselves. This year I built a new aviary and paired them off. They've had some chicks and I let them into the outside galvanised mesh aviary. I started to lose the odd one, it took 2 or 3 days for them to die, they just sat around fluffed up and loose at the rear, which we thought was the zinc off the galvanised frame. We then stopped them going out into the aviary and all was fine. But now they are just dropping dead. Unlike the others they look healthy one minute and next minute they just drop. I have lost 2 in this way which have been breeding and have had chicks.

Please contact me if you know of any information which can help!

Re: Budgies are dying!

This is a vet autopsy job if you're losing a lot of birds.I very much doubt it is the wire.Loose droppings point to a gut problem. But there are so many things it could be without seeking professional help to find the cause.

Is your seed kept dry?...Have you fed soaked seed? Fungal spores on seed can kill rapidly.Probably not in your case...but just a thought.

May I suggest you post your problem on here...http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/forum/index.php
