Re: WANTED: African grey. Loving home awaits.

Hi

We have an african grey. He is lovely, tame and talks all day. He does not have his wings clipped, dont think that is right either. He has two cages one for outside in the sun.

We dont want any money for him as we want him to go to a good home and for us that is priceless.

We live in Dorset and you are welcome to call us anytime on 07977 530 165.

My name is Roger Coggan.

Any questions please call

Re: WANTED: African grey. Loving home awaits.

If you are looking for cuddly and tame you would need to be prepared to purchase a hand reared baby from a breeder. Most rescued birds have problems and you would need to be willing to work with the bird

Re: WANTED: African grey. Loving home awaits.

Thankyou everyone for your replies.
I appreciate it. yeah we ideally would like to purchase from a breeder so are saving up but keeping options open too for a birdie that needs a new home.

Roger, im sorry for the late reply as my internet has and still is on the fritz lol, damn thing. is the grey still available? i bet i missed out or youre too far away. I think dorset is far away isnt it? ,,,a few hours. and we dont have transport. we cant travel cos of my fiances dialysis.
Are you coming my way soon? ill give you a call too and google how far dorset is. thanks.

also may i ask why you are giving him away?

Re: WANTED: African grey. Loving home awaits.

To Roger: just got off the phone to you. Sorry, I thought you knew where we lived and you were coming down this way. It's a real shame as he would be well cared for with us being home everyday but I understand completley wanting to see the place first etc. I would fo the same.
Animals are part of the family and it's very important you know who theyre going to and satisfied.
Keep us in mind if you're ever down this way.
I'm sorry you have to give him up and I hope he will get a loving home. Thanks for your time

Re: WANTED: African grey. Loving home awaits.

just wanted to say a grey will not take to a new owner if it has previously been loved by somebody else.
you must get one from a baby at 12 weeks. they are very much a one person bird.
i breed greys and can tell you without a doubt you will not get a cuddly grey as an adult if it has been somebody elses baby.

you can occasionally get a grey cheaper but usually because they are a biter.
there is a pet shop in rochdale (not sure where you are based) that will sell a baby at 12 weeks. they are rung as all uk birds legally have to be, and cost £525, however they will let you pay in installments. cages: look on your local freecycle website.

another method is buying an egg but i do not recommend this. you pay around £50 for an egg but you have no guarentees that it will ever hatch or if it is a fertilized egg. that said i myself have had 14 successful egg purchases. if you go down this road you will need an incubator and once buba has hatched you will need to spoon feed him/her eggfeed which you can buy from any petshop. failing that you can feed sops(bread soaked in warm milk).feeding will need to take place every 2 hours. cuddles will need to be plenty and a vet visit is a must in the first 48 hours to check for diseases.

please think long and hard before taking on a grey. they live for up to 65 years but they make the most wonderful pets. i would be completely lost without my baby elvis(and yes he does sing lol). i have 14 at present in the aviary but elvis lives with me in my house. he tells tales on the cats when they are misbehaving and on the kids too when up to no good.
there are no secrets with a grey!
