Try looking in the cage and aviary magazine that comes out weekly, I know i've seen hand reared ravens in there for sale.

Re: Desperately Seeking a Crow!!

aparently there is a rescue center that rehomes crows that are unable to go back to the wild due to injuries, too close to humans ect....

try looking for rescue centers, always worth a try i guess

Crows do not make the best "Pet" birds they should be out in the wild
We have a permant crow at the wildife hospital i help out at and i dont think its fair on the bird to keep them locked up in averies! There is so much they need that they wouldnt get as a pet!!

This is true of any bird though. You cannot have a bird and think that it will be ok shut in a cage, they need alot of time, easily as much as a dog would need!

However, I do agree that they don't make good pets, I think that they can turn very agressive at a certian age (as can any bird, but I believe they are harder to tame back down, although I've never owned one so don't know for sure)

Re: Desperately Seeking a Crow!!

ive heard that apparently these crows can become very tame, although i do believe that really they should be in the wild but if they are injuried or what every else is wrong then if they still have the chance to live a longer happy life then so be it, its better than them being put to sleep just because they cant go back into the wild.

Re: Desperately Seeking a Crow!!

What kinda crow as there are a few in the crow family. Instead of having one!! Why don't you look into helping rearing chicks that need to go back in the wild. They are lovely birds but they don't make very good pets. I hand reared two rooks and we kept them so they would'nt become used to us in a shed. They soon told us when they were ready to go when they started going for our eyes, they like the shine in your eyes and will go for them. I also had an injured jackdaw which I made more tame he pulled his feathers out with stress though as he always seemed to watch the crows that were flying and he could'nt ( broken wing).

Re: Desperately Seeking a Crow!!

A bird like that is never going to be a pet, it may show affection towards you when offering food but it is highly intelligent, highly suspicious and is unlikely to have much respect for you. Most pet birds do enjoy human contact, but parrots and birds of higher intelligence will always see you as the thing stopping him from flying free and finding a mate, and crows aren't tame and I can't really see that they ever will be.

Why don't you get involved with a raptor sanctuary or something? You would enjoy getting close to beautiful and intelligence birds in an environment thats stimulating enough for them to be happy, whilst also helping conserving the species!

Re: Desperately Seeking a Crow!!

at my work we breed african pied crows, they are very popular as pets in america. they are inteligent and need constant stimulation. they also need alot of space. we hand raised 3 this year, we kept one to train in displays and the other two went to a wildlife park in the kilda forrest.
they can be taught to speak, and our imprinted one can say hello and imitated other birds in the centre. she is extremly affectionate and LOVES cuddles and strokes, seems to thrive on them. but she can also be a bit overly exploritary with her beak, puling hair and stealing things from pockets are no so fun.

they are extremely messy and when well fed, are very fussy eaters, and will waste most of their food selecting only choice bits.
hopefuly we will breed more next year also.
