Wanted: Green Winged or Scarlet Macaw

I am currently looking to buy either a Green Winged or Scarlet Macaw within the next few months. Is anyone selling any here or do you know shops that have parrots for sale?

On a side note, how come parrots cost so much? I've seen some advertised online for about £1200, but why? If they are bred and reared in the UK, why do they cost so much? Its not like they have been imported and the people selling them have to pay off the import fees :\.

Re: Wanted: Green Winged or Scarlet Macaw

Stick with a Green Wing they make much better pets than the Scarlet.
As for the price, if you spend 2 hrs a day, 7 days a week for 16 weeks, hand feeding, cleaning beaks after every feed so they dont grow crooked, socialising, sterilising equipment and everything else that hand rearing involves and then sell them at £1200 you don't even make minimum wage. That's before you have paid for the upkeep on the breeding pair for the year the running costs of incubaters and brooders and paid for hand rearing formula.

@hawksport, I didn't think about all of that. The price makes sense if you have to put all that time into rearing them and paying for equipment.

@poohdog, I'll take a look at that site, thanks.
