Hi folks, jsut a quick hello

I have out this in the newby section but as its about birds i will post it here also

I will start by introducing myself, or us.
My name is Wayne and the more sensibly half is Tracey, by that i mean she agrees i need something to slow me down a little and is up for it as to going off roading and building off roaders.
I have just sold up and gave up messing with cars etc and have decided to start keeping birds, i have had budgies and cockatiles in the past and i have decided to do it again but on a better scale with an aviary, so as i have spare room where the worshop is i will be building an aviary to house cockatiels and maybe some ringnecks, we will see about the ringnecks as i sort out the setup of the aviary.
I have a space of around 18`x 9` to use and wil be having a bird room with inner flight and main flight, the inner will be around 9`x4.5` and the flight will be an L shape of 9`x 6 , 4.5`x 6`, should be good room for a few cockatiels and maybe a pair of ringnecks, i would like to keep them together but there has been so many differences in opinion about keeping parakeets and tiels together i am not sure yet, it maybe wise to keep them in the ringnecksin there own flight, we will see.

Anyway i will keep you updated to the progress of the build and how things are doing and if you will i will be needing a bit of advice along the way i should think, a bit different from keeping birds in cages.

First question though, how many tiels would be ok for the flight of the above size.

W+T

Re: Hi folks, jsut a quick hello

between 4 and 6 sounds a healthy size to me, saying that though i dont have my own aviary it was y grandad as i grew up, i keep a cockatiel and 3 budgies indoors you see.

Anyway welcome to the forum and good luck with the build, it sounds like youll be busy for a few months.

Re: Hi folks, jsut a quick hello

To tell the truth i was expecting a bit more, maybe 6 pairs, it is roughly 10 sqm and over 2m high. MMmmmm better replan the aviary.
Hope to have it built by the end of the year ready for the new season.

Wayne

Well the best thing to do is make the size you want than Id say get 6 in than if you think that there is more room than add a couple more till your happy but most of all they have to be happy and not look crowded.
