Parrots & Music

Does anyone have a parrot who loves music? Does s/he like a particular genre?

I love to have a sing-along whilst doing mundane jobs like washing up, cleaning, etc & Sally (our blue fronted Amazon) loves to sing along with me.

Her particular favourites seem to be; Michael Jackson, she LOVES his Off The wall album, The Jacksons, Barry White, Aretha Franklin & Diana Ross

She doesn't seem to like rock or punk (my fave types of music) & hates Placebo when I tried to play one of their CDs

I've just bought another Motown Greatest Hits cd as I have a feeling that will be her type of thing

Basil our african grey loves music some beats really get him 'going' little richard seems to be a fav as does jacky wilson, reet petite..

It seems to be not just the rythmn but the pitch, he wont respond to Ray Charles which is just that bit lower .. I havent tried much motown..

Maybe I'll give it a go he might like it..

(we talked a bit about this before Christmas...I have to say he loved Christmas music, must be all those jingle bells and fairly high pitched happy voices)

Merlin our African Grey loves music - but saying that he loves any noise at all He loves to bob up & down to loud beats and swing from side to side.

When I'm giving him his shower he even hums to himself

Re: Parrots & Music

LOL, I may try Jackie Wilson & Little Richard they are definitely her type of music!!

She is hilarious when we have our singalong sessions, she really does get in to it; bobs up & down, struts up & down on her perch, whistles, shows off all her beautiful feathers, etc

Even my poor OH joins in to make Sally happy; me & him singing & dancing to entertain the parrot - somethings not right!!

Be assured you are not the only ones...

We are the same and OH insists on watching earthflight because its 'good for Basil to hear the other birds'
Although last week with them all sounding alarm cos of the polar bear he flew and nearly landed on my head !

OH stands infront of Basils cage and say come on darling stretch and then demonstrates

Brilliant cage! We are currently in the process of restoring a bigger cage for Sally but all the perches you have on the top of yours as given me some more ideas

Sally will screech at me if I'm ignoring her & I can't speak on the phone near her when she's out of her cage as she too will fly on to my head.
