Ringneck taming/training

Hi Everyone,

I've had my hand tame Ringneck for nearly 4 days now and everything seems to be going great, he's eating, drinking etc and we now have him coming out of his cage and running over to us for strokes which he loves.. Problem is he started lightly biting (not hurting) my finger to get me to stroke him if I stop. Now he's starting to bite a bit harder if I don't stroke him and I'm concerned that he will soon learn that if he bites he gets what he wants..

Also, when i leave him he squawks like crazy until i return!

Any tips for me to break him out of this behaviour before it gets out of hand?

Thanks in advance!

Tony.

Parrot training would fill a book..

The main thing is like a spoilt child, don't respond to the birds wishes or it will get worse.Give it some fuss when you want...not when the bird demands it.You'll have to put up with some noise to teach the bird that it can't have it's own way. When it yells turn your back or leave the room.
hawksport and riotheringneck like this.

Thanks for this, will put your advice into practice. I've noticed this evening that he seems to be bonding more with me than my partner too so perhaps she needs more time with him. I'm home all day at the moment so i get more time with Rio than she does.
