help with cockatiels

hi i hae resently taken on 2 cockatiels they are about a year old, and as far as i can tell have never been handled, or let out of there cage,

i have kept cockatiels before when i was younger, but i had them from being really little and they were great fying round my room all the time and coming to say hello i would like to be able to do that with these but after trying all the tricks i learnt with the last 2 i am stumped.

firstly how can i conince them that i am ok to come see?

how do i get them to come to my hand?

there are now able to fly around the room and love the fredom but spend most of their time sat on the cage, and it is a nightmear trying to put them away,

oh and i am worried because they have only ever eaten bugie seed, i have tried cockatiel food, and the treet bars they pick of the millet and dump the rest. i have put in a cuttle fish which they love, and they hae loads of toys to play with.

so how do i introduce them to new food and can i do it this late in the day, are they missing anything in there diet should i be worried,

just so you know they are called squark and talk, named by my daughter as the previous owners just called them bird and were going to let them go into the wild you can see what i am up against,

any help greatfully received,

(i miss my old birds they live with my x husdand and i can only hope that he still treats them as kindly as i did, )

Re: help with cockatiels

Birds that are not hand reared can take a long time to tame...not always successfully.
Persevere with the cockatiel mix which is mostly millet anyway...millet sprays are a particular treat for them.A slice of apple daily and a bit of occasional greenfood are usually popular.
I'm afraid you will have to be very patient.
