What to do..............

I have a pair of American Singer canaries that have hatched a single chick. The little one seems to have a problem with its legs and at two weeks basically lies flat on its belly because its legs won't support it. It is very slow to fledge and I think must have heart problems because it literally pants and its underlying flesh tone is blue. I have no way to humanely end its life and I am in a quandry as to what I should do. The mother bird is faithfully feeding and caring for this little one but I doubt it will ever be able to stand up much less sit on a perch. Any suggestions??? Thanks for your help.

Re: What to do..............

The mother is feeding this chick like she has all the others she has raised successfully. It is thriving. I may just see what happens when it reaches
the stage when they normally leave the nest and the hen wants to start
a new family. I have spare cages and if it can actually feed and drink water
I will keep it as long as it manages to survive.

Thanks for your concern.

Re: What to do..............

I know this thread is quite old now but it could be where the mother sat on the chick. I have a budgie called Blue. His mother sat on him when he was a baby and he now has splayed legs. He is now 8yrs old and manages really well. We`ve modified his cage for him so it`s more comfortable and he is leading a full happy life. He loves to talk, his vocabulary is amazing. He spent a short period in an outside aviry with other birds & not only was he learning new words from us, he was teaching the other budgies to speak too! I never expected Blue to live this long but he`s still going strong.
