Love Bird Babies.

This is our first post so please excuse any mistakes and hello to all who are reading.

We have two lovebirds who by complete fluke happen to be a breeding pair. We only found this out when the 'Merry' who sundenly change to 'Mary' starting laying eggs! Long story short five eggs were layed and for various reasons we are left with 3 healthy babies. Its been three weeks since they hatched and Mum and Dad have been great parents. We need some advice on what we should do next. They will need to be split up at some point but at what age? Also will we need to split the babies in to a two and a single?

Many Thanks for any help.

They shoud start eating by themselves by 6 weeks old, so when your sure after this time that they are feeding themselves they can leave mum and dad. (mum and dad may attack them when they try and go back in the nest after this too so you need to move them)

3 is a crowd with lovebirds and they will bully one, so yes really you will need to split them eventually.

I have two love birds and they are a breeding pair. In fact they laid two eggs out of which only one hatched. But the baby didnt live long. it died in a day. We didnt know what went wrong. Is there any specific thing that we should do to help them mate again?

Sometimes with young birds they are not good parents...or the chick was ill anyway.Try a new nestbox...plenty of oystershell and grated cuttlefish.Vary the diet, they will lay again when they're ready...then make sure they have a bath available and occasionally spray the box to raise humidity.
