Red face Canary breeding

Hi there,

I recently separated my female and male canary about three weeks ago. They have both been very eager to mate ever since being apart. Today my female laid an egg. I put my male in her cage today and they have been maiting all day. He has also been feeding her. My question is will any of the eggs from this clutch be fertile or did I miss the window? If she lays eggs tomorrow or later, will they be fertile? I am new at this....Should I take they eggs away and put fake ones under her? Will it damage the eggs if I just leave them with her? Thanks for your input!!!

Re: Canary breeding

Give it a week and then 'candle' the eggs...Hold them to a strong light,if they are fertile you will see veins appearing in the developing embryo.
This batch may be infertile, but if the old mans giving her that much attention the next lot may very well be fertile.

Dummy eggs are used to allow the chicks to hatch more or less at the same time.By removing the eggs as they are hatched and replacing them all when the hen has finished laying.Fertile eggs should hatch in 13/14 days.

If you want to breed your birds I suggest you read up a lot...there's plenty on Google.
