Bird Ringing

OK this may be a dumb question,but if i am going to ring my birds,do i need to join a club/society?
Was looking to buy some but unsure where and if i need join somewher,was looking at the split type rings
Many thanks for any help

Got a couple pairs of finches that are sitting on eggs,
Also got two pair of canaries that i am hoping to breed soon

If they aren't british you are ok with split rings but if you are ringing babies you might as well use closed rings and have a permanent id on them.
