Re: Zebras
Hi I'm a newbie to PFC & not sure what to do, but here goes...
I was hoping that someone could help me with my zebra finches. I was given a female zebra finch by someone who was moving away, I did some research and found that they shouldn't be on there own so I bought male. Everything was going fine, she laid 5 eggs in total. However, we noticed that 1 had hatched (possibly 2) - but there was still 3 eggs left. For the last 2 days neither of them have been sat on the eggs so I assume they're not going to hatch? Also, I got up this morning to discover they have removed a large amount of bedding from theit nest. Now i don't know what to do? I thought I did everything right, I made sure they had all the right food and i changed their water daily (twice daily after the first chick had hatched). I just feel like maybe i've done something wrong, and i don't know what to do now? Do I remove the nest? Do I leave it? Vicci |

Re: Zebras
There must be something wrong. They breed like mice in them. To be honest they seem to breed like mice whatever the environment. I think you were just unlucky.

Re: Zebras
I agree it's much better to keep them in aviaries. It's more humane. The fact they breed readily in small breeding cages proves their urge to reproduce is so strong they will still breed in spite of their environment.
