PAT dogs

Has anyone ever had a PAT dog?

How did you go about getting registered?

What responsibilities does it hold and how often did your dog work?

Thanks in advance

Re: PAT dogs

Hi there
If you go online, then they will get a local person to send you an application form and then you arrange for your dog to be checked by the local representative. I believe it costs about £19 to get registered and tested and then it is up to you how often you take your dog places - I think your local representative can help you with ideas of where you can go......
I have got the paperwork for my yorkie as I am sure she would be excellent - she loves people and is totally bomb proof....
Good luck.
xx

Thanks guys. I'd be interested to see how Owen would fair as a PAT dog, but he's only 5 months so I'm one step ahead of myself! Good to be prepared though

Re: PAT dogs

My Bertie and Skye are both registered PAT dogs. I 1st got involved with animal assisted therapy when a friend of mine (dog trainer) got involved with someone that works for the NEMHT and we got involved with a dog walking project, were patients walk our dogs, this is not run under PAT dogs. A friend and I then went on to get our dogs registered with PAT dogs and went to a hospital with our dogs. I think Bertie has been a registered PAT dog for about 8 years now and Skye for just under 1 year. We were going to the hospital every Monday afternoon and the dog walking group on a Friday afternoon. Bertie is more or less retired now as he is 9 days short of 12 years old and I found a lump on his leg a couple of weeks ago which has turned out to be skin cancer. And Skye has had some time off this year to raise a family (she had a litter of 4 pups in April).
