I have never heard this but if its true id say it was unlikely to happen, if you change the sand in the bath regually and wash your hands before and after there should be no problem. people think the same about reptiles passing on salmonella, its very rare as long as your hygene is good and the animals and their cages are kept clean. i personally wouldnt worry about it.
