Chinchillas are not getting on!!! HELP!!
I bought my first chin in January. She was with a male when I bought her and a few months afterwards, I noticed her calling out and seeming very lonely, so I got her a little friend, who was a male, hoping she would feel a little happier and maybe breed in the future.
He was from a bullied background and was small for his age, so I thought that maybe my female chin would "take him under her wing" as she is a very timid and friendly chin.
To start with the chins seemed happy being in each others company, their cages side by side and a play together out of their cages at night. The male seemed to enjoy copying her and following her around.
After a while, I decided to move the chins to a different room, which is more suitable for them. Ever since, they have not got on at all!
My male chin bullies my female, starting small scraps, causing fur to come from her. She is chattering her teeth alot when he sniffs around her cage and when he is near to her.
I have also recently noticed that she is standing on her back legs and slightly "thrusting", which I think she is about to spray urine at him.
I really would like my chins to get along. They are both friendly to people, just not to each other!!
Is there any advice anyone could give me which could help me to help my chins get along a bit better!!
All replies will be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Naomi
