Anyone know of anything that might get rid of the smell? Will bathing in water do it or will I need some sort of shampoo?

I would use some cat shampoo, just to make sure she's thoroughly clean. You could also try a little bit of baby powder, we put a tiny bit on Effie's back near her tail recently; she'd had a bit of diarrhoea, and was getting a bit messy in her litter tray, so we wiped her down with a damp cloth and when she was dry rubbed a tiny bit of baby powder in her fur.
PS - my parents have a Jess and an Alfie! Jess is their cat and Alfie is their dog, a staffie :-D
