Are you crate training?
If you are then what we do is take them out, wait 5 minutes if nothing is 'produced' then they are crated for 15 minutes then we go out again. This is repeated until they 'perform' the reward for which is time out of the crate with us and a treat.
Toilet training, chewing prevention and the like are a doddle with a crate and all ours have loved them and they know it is their little haven, all the kids and any visitors know that if any of ours are in their crates they are not to be bothered.
As above, you do not want to be bathing a pup until around 4 months, this is as much about their inability to regulate their body temperature as it is about stripping the oils etc from their skin.
