Breeders differ, you're quite right. My Birman's breeder didn't mind as long as I used my own judgement to determine what was safest for him. My Maine Coon's breeder, however, would never sell a kitten to a home that allows cats outside or a home that did not have a companion already for the kitten (I only had a dog at this point so that was fine).
